Guzzler
Tsukuda Original Othello Multivision, 1983
Guzzler is a maze video game released in 1983, developed and published by Tehkan, and later licensed to Centuri for distribution in North America. It was made available as an arcade conversion kit, which included a new marquee and control panel, and was eventually ported to the SG-1000 console.
In Guzzler, players control a creature that can drink water from puddles to extinguish fires and defeat fire-themed monsters that spawn from those flames. Each level features a maze with varying degrees of openness, and players must put out all the fires to complete the level while avoiding the pursuing monsters.
The main character can unleash three blasts of liquid before running dry. With each blast, the character moves faster but also gets closer to becoming an empty outline with pink shoes. When completely empty, the character becomes a shell of a sprite, gaining even more speed. Liquid is replenished by drinking from puddles, and occasionally, an alcoholic beverage appears in the center of the screen. Picking it up refills the characterâs liquid supply, temporarily freezes the fires, and changes the characterâs color to red.
