Food Fight
Atari 7800, 1986
Food Fight is an arcade game where players control Charley Chuck, a boy tasked with eating a melting ice cream cone before it completely melts. The game is set in a playfield where Charley must avoid and battle four chefs—Oscar, Angelo, Jacques, and Zorba—who chase him while he tries to reach the cone. The chefs emerge from holes in the ground and attempt to stop Charley from reaching his goal.
The gameplay centers around Charley throwing various food items—such as pies, peas, tomatoes, and bananas—at the chefs to knock them off the screen. Watermelon is the only unlimited supply of food, making it an important tool for the player. Players can also lure chefs into the holes in the floor, scoring additional points. Charley must avoid being touched by the chefs or their thrown food, falling into a hole, or failing to eat the ice cream before it melts. Points are earned by hitting chefs, luring them into holes, and finishing levels with unused food items remaining.
Each level becomes more challenging as Charley faces faster and more aggressive chefs, and the point value of the ice cream cone increases until level 50. If Charley has a close call with a chef or thrown food, the game will sometimes play an instant replay of the level with accompanying music, adding an extra layer of entertainment.
